We will not sugar-coat it. The truth is that Monasteria stands on the site of a former convent, in the middle of an Andalusian pueblo blanco, and it does not need any exaggerations of reality. Frigiliana defends itself with its true colours. White, blue, inky blue, and luscious pink, from the bougainvillea that blooms here. There is also the colour of the sun, sometimes dark blue clouds over the national park of Sierras de Almijara, Tejeda and Alhama and a blue sky over the coastal Nerja. You can see it all here. Right from our terraces.

We have a white house here on a stone trail, right next to other white houses with blue doors. We do a salmorejo in the kitchen by the window, greeting passers-by with a cheerful 'Hola!' They will wave on their way to white bars with the best rioja and tapas in the area. Cars don't pass by here, the streets are too narrow. Little donkeys bring bags with mandarins and cheese, they also pass our windows, peeking inside.

We spend our days like native Spaniards, on sunny terraces or like athletes skiing or trekking in the mountains, which start right behind the fence. Sometimes like families with children on the beaches and in the caves of Nerja. You get this world exclusively, to explore, with our help. Come if you want to see the prettiest village in Andalusia. If you are looking for trekking or rock climbing areas. If you like historic towns with the Orient in the background. And if you don't mind walking in the narrow streets. We invite you to a slightly different Andalusia. Still absolutely gorgeous.

There are some things you need to know right away. Our part of Frigiliana is the oldest and most beautiful. It's impossible to reach by car, and part of the experience is climbing the picturesque, steep streets. If you have mobility issues, are in particularly poor shape, or simply don't enjoy this type of activity, our house may prove challenging. If you're looking for complete seclusion, a cottage lost among the hills, you won't find it here either.

Our house, the Monasteria, is a typical white house in a white village. With a small church, grandmothers in black dresses, the Spanish language tinged with the local dialect, donkeys by the window, and playful children with a ball under their arms.

The house actually consists of two houses: the main house, the Monasteria, and the smaller house, Casa Limoñ. They are connected by a garden, terraces, and a grape patio. The main part of the house, the Monasteria, is the remains of the chapel of the convent that once stood here, long ago. The Monasteria is an example of beautifully preserved local architecture. Oriental accents, Andalusian architecture, and the simplicity of the "pueblo blanco" created a unique Mudejar style. Whitewashed walls, natural materials, and blue windows, which always open onto the lively street, can be heard. You can hear the sounds of the street and the sound of a neighbor's guitar. This part of the house contains a kitchen with a dining room and a living room, where family time is usually spent, a bathroom, and two bedrooms: a double bedroom with a double bed (a cot can be added here) and a small bedroom for one person or child.

Stairs from the Monasteria living room lead to the garden and to the second house, which we call Casa Limoñ. There, just beyond the charming arches, is a bedroom with two single beds and a bathroom. Casa Limoñ is a charming space overlooking the garden and the grapevine patio.

Both houses, Monasteria and Casa Limone, have rooftop terraces. The views are breathtaking: the sea in front, the mountains behind, and the Pueblo Blanco below.

On-site, you'll find everything you need:
- a fully equipped kitchen with a coffee maker
- mosquito nets on the windows (we can provide an additional one for a baby cot), fans for hot days, and a fireplace for winter evenings
- beach accessories and towels, sand toys, and umbrellas
- a full information package on what to eat and see in the area (we organize tours of nearby national parks and towns, electric bike tours, snorkeling, hiking, and visits to Andalusia's historical monuments).

We offer our home for your exclusive use. The large, comfortable kitchen in Monasteri is fully equipped. You'll find an oven, mixer, blender, all the pots and pans you need for baking cakes and lasagna. A toaster, Naspresso coffee maker, milk frappe, drip coffee maker, and citrus juicer are also available. The kitchen is stocked with basic spices and often plenty of basic ingredients like pasta, rice, and olive oil.

We've been proud farmers for five years. In our second home, "El Jardin," in the mountains, we run an agritourism farm. We have an orchard with over 100 exotic fruit trees. For those interested, we have fruit boxes available for home delivery, or even better, we invite you to join us for a family pick of delicacies (mangoes, avocados, tangerines, starfruits, papayas, lemons, and many more, straight from the tree!
There are plenty of great eateries in the immediate area. Starting with the one closest to us, with a terrace overlooking the sea, there are dozens throughout Frigiliana. You'll find several trusted addresses in your specially prepared welcome pack.

In Frigiliana, you can shop for groceries, especially juicy fruit, olive oil, and wine.

At home, we usually spend time on one of the terraces, enjoying afternoon coffee, evening wine, and listening to the sounds of Frigiliana, savoring the sun, sea, and mountains.
Beautiful beaches are just a 5-minute bus ride from the house, an 8-minute bus ride, and a 10-minute walk. All of this leads to the most beautiful views in the area. You can stroll along the pier, snack on tapas by the sea, jump in the waves, and sunbathe to your heart's content, try the best paella in the area, and watch an amazing flamenco show at the "Burro" tavern in the evening, returning to the cottage with sand on your feet.
Active travelers of all ages feel great here. Frigiliana is located practically in the National Park. Mountain trails are just 200 meters from the Monasteria house! I organize trips for active guests. When you book, you'll receive a full offer for the given season. Hiking tours with stories about the local history, customs, and architecture, visits to mango and avocado plantations, trips to the mountains, surrounding towns, and wild beaches, snorkeling on the beautiful beaches of the national park, river canyons, and electric bike tours on routes of varying difficulty. We have four high-quality bikes for you, plus an e-bike for children aged 7-10. Kayaking trips on the calm sea, where you'll see amazing beaches, fish, and sea waterfalls.

For 13 years in London, I worked with children, so all our tours and suggested attractions are tailored to the ages and interests of our youngest guests.

Art seekers... a real treat! Frigiliane has become a beloved destination for many artists; many painters, sculptors, and musicians live and work here. Our closest neighbor is Klause Hinkle, a renowned watercolorist, who will be happy to talk to you about his work and show you his wonderful paintings. Studio 55 has amazing works, and they organize drawing and painting classes here, and you can participate for €7.

In the old town, where you'll be staying, galleries are everywhere. In the evenings, you can enjoy live music in the bars or, on weekends, in the squares of Frigiliana. And there are also real, normal Spaniards around; you'll hear them at football matches. GORGEOUS!

12 things you need to know about Frigiliana:

1. Considered the most beautiful village in Andalusia, it has a rich history of cooperation between three cultures: Christian, Muslim, and Jewish.
2. You can get here without a car. It's better to walk through the narrow streets, and take a city bus to the sea. We recommend flying to Malaga, then taking a bus to Nerja, and then a minibus to Frigiliana. This is where the need for four wheels ends.
3. For starters, it's best to simply stay in Frigiliana and wander the flower-filled, white streets for days. We promise an incredible artistic experience (Moorish decorations on the buildings, automatic theaters, wonderful restaurant terraces, galleries, and concerts).
4. You can take the bus to Nerja to the beach, eat paella in one of the best restaurants, lie on the beach, and explore the extraordinary caves of Nerja (the passages are 4,823 meters long, and the drop in ground through them is 72 meters).
5. The ski lifts in the Sierra Nevada Mountains are just over an hour's drive away.
6. Granada, home to arguably Spain's greatest monument – the oriental Alhambra Palace – is 100 kilometers away.
7. It's worth planning a trek through the mountains, which lie just outside our house. We provide detailed trail maps and a guide for our guests. 8. For more active mountain lovers, we recommend Andalusian natural wonders: Caminito del Rey - Walk of the Kings in El Chorro, El Torcal - the Spanish Table Mountains, trekking through the Río Chillar, Río Verde, or Río Higuerón canyons, "Los Vados" - Via Ferrata Motril, and walks in Las Alpujarras.
9. Frigiliana offers easy access to the mountains and also to the water. More than a dozen Costa Tropical beaches located between Nerja and Almuñécar offer rocky, well-hidden, secluded havens of marine life, as well as larger and busier spots with organized water sports tourism. We recommend renting kayaks from the beach and snorkeling from the beach in the nature park.
10. If you visit in autumn and winter, you'll experience harvest season. This is when citrus fruits, avocados, mangoes, raisins, figs, and various types of nuts and dates taste their best in the local greengrocers. Everything comes from local orchards. We own an orchard ourselves :) Where guests can browse to their heart's content.

11. The temperature rarely drops below 10 degrees Celsius, even in January. You can swim in the sea from early spring to late autumn and enjoy the sun 320 days a year.

12. Practically every season there's a fiesta. Frigiliana's streets are a vibrant, artistic scene, worth participating in.

We have internet and phone reception, but not in every room. The walls are thick, the streets are a veritable maze, and the mountain range behind us makes reception difficult. Many of our guests work remotely. It's also worth taking your laptop to the local cafes, enjoying free Wi-Fi and a glass of Muscat wine, or to the beautiful library located in an old hacienda.

Parking:
Parking in Frigiliana is free. Both tourists and locals park on the lower street, Avenida Carlos Cano, and walk home.

Agnieszka (your host) is a local guide. She will take you on trips both short and long, including bike rides, kayaking, wild beaches, and colorful fish viewing in the national park. She also organizes museums and tours. Ask about seasonal offers.

We welcome families with children. We have a son who has been roaming around Monasteria since he was two years old, so we've prepared the house to be relatively safe. Please note, however, that there are two terraces on different levels. The stairs leading up to them are quite steep, so you need to keep an eye on your little ones. The rule is: children are not allowed in the garden or on the terraces alone. We have all the necessary equipment for children: a cot, duvets, blankets, a highchair, a bathtub, mosquito nets, a comfortable baby carrier, books, games, puzzles, LEGO, and beach toys.

In Frigiliana, there's a children's playground in the center of the village. My son spent many wonderful moments there playing on the Spanish cliffs, and I improved my Spanish. During the summer season, Frigiliana also offers a wonderful outdoor pool, open Mon-Fri: 1:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Sat and Sun: 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM. The price per person is approximately €2 per day.

We have a fantastic water park in a nearby town – I highly recommend it!

Several beaches. We can organize trips especially for children, including watching colorful fish in masks, submarine rides, kayaking, and the summer hit: canyoning in the Rio Verde.

You can work here as much as you want, but siesta is required;)
We have internet, which will disappoint a hacker, but for most of our busy guests it is very good. The internet/router is in the living room, open plan with kitchen and dining room. There is a large table and comfortable armchairs. If you need a secluded place, let us know, we will organize a separate "office" for you in the cottage in the garden.

In our village there is a beautiful library, where you can work in silence or print documents, I recommend it.
