Chata Morgana sounds a bit like fatamorgana, and there is probably something to it. Our house is located in a tiny village, but as it is in Lower Silesia, there is a palace and a church, which remembers the times of the Piast dynasty. There were also Germans, Czechs, and later resettlers from across the river Bug. This is where Darek's grandparents and parents ended up when they had to leave their homeland right after the war. When we bought this old, dilapidated farmhouse, we didn't know that almost half a century earlier, it had been in the hands of our family. It was only when the renovation began and the family elders arrived that it turned out that it was here, in the living room, where my aunt's wedding had taken place, and my uncle had planted those grey rennets. There was crying, laughter and disbelief.
Chata Morgana is a place at the end of the world where you can get lost. Lost in the morning singing of birds, in a garden that we do not necessarily want to tame, in the view of gentle hills, in the traces of history. There is lavender drying under the ceiling in our house, there is also a guitar, not a very new one, which remembers many evenings and a few mornings by the fire. Listen to Darek's song about the old house in Kaczawy and fall into a hammock.
Our land lies at an altitude of 340 m above sea level. in the Kaczawskie Mountains and does not resemble Provence. These are real Polish mountains, where it happens that from autumn to spring it blows, snow completely covers the area, and frost bites the nose and cheeks. The summers are dry and hot. Grapes are ripening beautifully and lavender is blooming.
It is in such natural circumstances that our cottage, over a hundred years old, is located, which in the second half of the 19th century served as a farmhouse. One hundred years later, we adopted it as our family home, and at the same time a haven for you, our guests. You can rest here, start your journey around the Sudetes, spend your holidays in a hammock, ski holidays or just a free weekend in lavender.
We have prepared for you 10 cozy rooms decorated in a rustic style, including 5 double rooms and 5 duplex family rooms. These are not typical hotel rooms, because of the shape of the building, each room is a bit different. Sometimes guests ask about apartments. No, that's not the style. Rather modest rooms in the countryside, but decorated with respect for natural materials. We tried to equip the rooms comfortably, each room has a double bed, at least one single bed and a bathroom.
In the cottage, our guests have free access to the Internet. In addition, you can enjoy all the benefits of a country house - a meadow where you can run barefoot, a garden with lots of flowers, fruit trees, a fireplace, a shady gazebo with hammocks, etc.
Space for our guests is not only rooms. We also have a living room with a fireplace, with a small stage, where intimate music meetings are sometimes held. Outside, under the shelter, you can relax on hammocks, light a fire, feast.
Deckchairs on the lavender field are waiting.
You can also make yourself comfortable in a roofed hut with a grill or sit by the fire.
The area is rich in good restaurants. With a clear conscience, we will direct you to:
- Karczma Podgórzanka (12 km), and there Sarmatian cuisine, venison, smoked meats and sausages on the spot.
- Staniszów Palace (25 km), exquisite palace cuisine, delicious venison, beef cheeks, risotto, scallops.
- Kawiarnia u Leszka (25 km), a magical pub reminiscent of a Jewish inn - here for delicious sour rye soup with fried potatoes, fried cabbage, borscht with dumplings. It is worth buying a bunch of sausages from those hanging above the bar.
- Café in the Houses of Weavers (about 30 km) - delicious coffee, cake "bomb of the apostles" and stories about the magical Chełmsko Śląski told by the owners.
- Villa Greta Restaurant (6 km) - Slow food cuisine, carefully selected ingredients, also from our own garden. Cuisine appreciated in the French culinary guide Gault&Millau.
- Sokola "Fish from the oven" delicious fish, trout caught in the morning and baked to the point in a special oven.
Kaczawy is famous for its undulating, deserted hills, peace and quiet, extinct volcanoes that can be confidently conquered. These are old mountains, with lots of valuable minerals. There are several enthusiasts with whom you can go searching for agates. But first, it's worth driving around the area, seeing medieval castles, churches, breathing fresh air in one of several local nature reserves ... We will be happy to tell you about all this when you come to us. By the fire, during lazing in a hammock, at breakfast.
In the summer, let's meet at evening concerts in our lavender field. Of course, Darek sits down to the guitar and the microphone and creates magic. There are benches, deckchairs, you can lie down on a blanket and listen to folk, blues and sung poetry. It will be moody, fragrant, purple and unique.
We are equipped with maps, guidebooks, we have trodden many paths here, and Darek has cycled all kinds of backwoods. From leisure routes to wailing walls and singletracks. Our region is also famous for enthusiasts who organize workshops ranging from pottery, gold prospecting, cooking with wild herbs to engraving at the Glass Manufaktura. Artistic souls are directed to Dobków, where, under the patronage of Sudecka Zagroda: walks in search of agates, pizza baking workshops at Ceramika Rodziny Rudnickich "RR", natural cosmetics production workshops, gingerbread baking. You can get the Passport of the Discoverer of the Land of Extinct Volcanoes and take part in our lavender workshops.
For enthusiasts of active recreation, we recommend "Kaczawski single track" in nearby Gozdno (15 km from Chata Morgana). Legs hurt, the "saddle" hurts, and the muscles of the face hurt the most from the constant smile of satisfaction. Fun.
PS Mandatory helmet and disc brakes. Route 12+
In winter, after returning from skiing or walking, you can warm up by the fireplace, play billiards or try your hand at playing the congas. You can, and even should, read the book, drink some wine and think about blue almonds.
What’s there for children?
We invite guests with slightly older children - school age and teenagers. Babies and toddlers require special conditions that we cannot provide them yet. We are working on preparing our interiors for families with little children, so in the future we will certainly be able to invite all the kids.
For you - school children, we have prepared outdoor chess, a ping-pong table in the garden, table football, billiards and wonderful books in various alleys of our cottage. There will be lavender workshops, open-air concerts, going to the mountains and searching for minerals under the supervision of a passionate geologist. We recommend our favorite Marcin Jaśkiewicz, who conducts geological workshops. Nobody like him talks about the rocks and the surrounding area. Beautiful natural circumstances, and you never know who will find the most valuable specimen. You can find agates like brawn, quartz and swing it with a hammer to find unique treasures.
