Just by the Vistula bend in Bydgoszcz, in the historic Chełmno Land, between the trees, there is a magical place where life tastes differently. The residents of the surrounding settlements organise feather quilting, Kupala Night, weave garlands and share good energy. But it is not as if we in the countryside only eat fresh meat and homemade sausages. Fortunately, there are also vegetarian and vegan options.
Before the Second World War, you could hear three languages here: Polish, German and Dutch. And in each of them, there are words that perfectly describe this place. In Polish, they would sound: silence, peace, rest. In the village of Gzin, you sleep like a baby, eat for two and reset your body among the surrounding greenery. And after just one night spent here, we can recite after Kochanowski: "Peaceful village, merry village, Who will be able to sing your praises?"
Gzinianka that stands in it was built out of a love of nature, a passion for food and a great longing to meet loved ones in a family home. Here live the Shetland pony Kuba, rams, peacocks, whose screams sometimes cut through the silence, happy chickens that lay eggs for us for breakfast, two dogs, a cat and soon also alpacas. There is much to pet, feed and observe.
No need to beat around the bush: this is the perfect place to take a break, air out your head and eat well. Do you feel convinced?
In a climatic agritourism consisting of 5 comfortable rooms that can accommodate a total of 23 people. Each room has its own bathroom and independent entrance, but we already give details.
Room No. 1 can accommodate 3 people. It has a double sofa bed and a single bed.
Room No. 2 can accommodate 4 people. From both rooms you can go out to the covered terrace - perfect for an evening glass of wine or a game of cards.
The entrance to the two-storey apartment through the terrace leads to the living room with a sofa bed, table, small fridge. On the mezzanine there is a bright bedroom with two windows in the ceiling and a window overlooking more of the forest and a bathroom (there are quite steep stairs to the mezzanine, so watch out for the little ones). This apartment also has an independent entrance and parking. On the patio there is garden furniture where you can relax comfortably.
In turn, the cottage has two bedrooms with individual toilets and showers. The bedroom is accessed through a common lounge with a corner and a family table. The cottage has a covered area for relaxation with garden furniture.
There is a small pond in Gzinianka (watch out for kids), and right next to it - a beautiful forest, fields and meadows creating an idyllic atmosphere of the village. This idyll can be disturbed by mosquitoes (take an anti-mosquito spray with you) and the typical rural aroma of pigs and cow feed. Sometimes you can hear cars passing by, because the farm is located on a road - a country road, but sometimes something will pass.
Our garden is inhabited by peacocks that like to scream for no reason.
You can eat well and healthily here. We cook regional cuisine using local products of the highest quality. In our dishes, we discover often forgotten flavors of Kujawy, Pomerania and Pałuki, based on the knowledge of our mothers, grandparents and friends, and we subtly adapt them to our preferences.
We strive to recreate the flavors we know from childhood, which is why we bake sourdough bread ourselves (it received the main prize at the Taste Festival in Gruczno), we make cheese, jams and preserves. We buy butter, eggs and everything that grows in their gardens from our neighbors. If you want, we will also prepare vegan, vegetarian dishes or dishes without the listed ingredients.
We prepare sausages, hams, pâtés, lard and meat that comes from our neighbor Mietek's pigs. Vegetables and fruits come from the local market in Unisław. You can try our cheeses - ripened and rennet made from cow's milk during breakfast.
There are many restaurants and cafes in Bydgoszcz, Toruń and Chełmno - City of Lovers (approx. 30 minutes by car).
We also provide you with a coffee corner where you can brew aromatic coffee.
We want the time spent with us to be exactly what you dreamed of. That is why we make sure that you feel comfortable with us. You can walk, laze, read books, sunbathe, ride a bike and do whatever you can think of.
There are numerous, picturesque bicycle routes nearby (including the route connecting Bydgoszcz and Toruń) and lots of walking paths. In the immediate vicinity there is the Linje nature reserve, which protects the peat bog, and a bit further there are three other nature reserves: Marian Forest, Wielka Kępa Ostromecka and Reptowo. We recommend the sunrise and sunset at the bend of the Lower Vistula.
It is worth coming to the annual Festival of Taste in Gruczno, offering local products, the Bread Festival in a bread village or the Plum Festival in Strzelce Dolne, where jam is fried in a traditional method in backside pots. Local events worth attending are: Cabbage Festival in Bruky Unisławskie, Communal Harvest Festival, Kupała Night celebration, with traditional singing and dancing.
If you want to go to Toruń or Bydgoszcz - we will suggest what to see. We sincerely recommend visiting the Palace in Ostromecko, which hosts live concerts and lots of workshops, and Chełmno with its beautifully preserved defensive walls.
What’s there for children?
In our country, kids, as in the countryside - run, play hide and seek, play badminton, football, ride bikes and climb trees. Some fish in the pond, and some feed and take care of our pets. In case of bad weather, we have prepared board games.
On hot days, we put out a small garden pool for the kids and let them play in the stream from the rain shower.
We are participants of the Educational Village program, we organize workshops for children, "Professions from the Past", where we make dumplings, bake flatbread and churn butter.
