The Karst Plateau is not only just about caves and various karst forms. It is also a wine region booming with history that dates back more than two thousand years and where Teran wine comes from. But the leverage of the area is food. It is a paradise for traditional gourmets, seekers of new flavors and people who simply like to eat well. Take a trip through the Goriška Brda hills, which are famous for their wine, cherries and olives. Feast at the restaurant Hiša Franko run by the best chef - a woman. Visit the vast and windy Vipava valley, where sweet peaches grow all over the place and enjoy them with local wine.
Only a few live in the small village of Pliskovica. There is also an old stone barn which walls bend into the shape of a narrow street running between rows of houses standing together. It looks like it popped out of the rock that dominated the local hill, then finally came to rest with a view to the garden, the valley and the hills above Trieste.
Four hundred years ago, Sivka cow most likely lived here and today Cambria is inhabited by a spirit of comfort, modernity and style. Don`t take our word for it... Come and see for yourself!
What Kambra really is it`s all about two buildings - a restored barn from the 17th century and a modernist, concrete pavilion built a few years ago, which are connected by a garden.
The barn looks like it grew out of the rock that expanded across the hill in the village, its barn walls bend and adapt to the shape of the street that runs between groups of small houses. During the renovation, we tried to preserve as many original elements as possible and we believe we did :) We left the stone window and door frames, oak ceiling, faded facade and all iron elements that reveal that it was once a house of a cow named Sivka. When creating the interior, we divided the space into levels rather than rooms separated by walls.
On the ground floor you will find a spacious, modern kitchen and the bathroom, to which the door hidden in the kitchen cabinet leads. On the higher level there is a living room with TV and a comfortable fold-out sofa that can accommodate two guests, and on the top floor there is a bedroom with a double bed.
Opposite the old house is a one-level concrete pavilion, which is all white inside. There you will find a bedroom with a double sofa bed and a bathroom. From the outside, you can enter the utility room, where there is a washing machine and a tumble dryer.
Between the two buildings lies a garden, a common place for all guests. Although it is not too big, there is a place for sunbathing space on the grass or deckchairs, an annex with a grill and a covered terrace where you can drink wine, drinks, feast, hide from the sun and spend the whole day.
There is also a car park for 2 cars and an electric car charging station.
What we eat is all local, delicious and healthy, but not necessarily diet-driven. We will show you around or just tell you what and where you can buy of the local goodies. We have the famous Karst prosciutto, dried meats, honey, cheese and juicy fruit and vegetables in the area. Do not forget about the amazing wines that you will be able to find on the Karst Wine Road (dark red Teran wine is our pearl).
After shopping, put your bags on the table and you can start cooking. All you need is a little creative invention, good herbs and spices, hints from local residents and we guarantee that you will cook something good. You have a lot to show off, because there are two kitchens waiting for you - one traditional, in an old barn, the other outside - an annex with a grill.
The kitchens are well-equipped because we like convenience ourselves and we know that some need facilities. Therefore, at home you will find: a fridge, coffee maker, oven with the option of steam, induction cooker, sink, kettle, dishwasher and other kitchen accessories. In the garden there's a large countertop, an electric grill, where you can prepare decent feast, a sink and helpful appliances.
If you get tired of self-service, we recommend you in the area:
-Gostilna Šajna (15 min)- they serve local specialties and pour karas wine
-Komel (15 min)- modernized Karas cuisine, the menu changes seasonally depending on what the area offers
We have a lot more restaurants that we can recommend to you, just ask!
