The story began in 1903 when Poronin was a poor highlander village. Its beauty was appreciated by a colonel in the imperial army, lecturer of Greek and Latin, Franciszek Chowaniec-Bulcyk, who built a wooden villa in the Tatra Mountains. It was here that his daughter Zofia and Medard Stadniccy, who lived in Kraków, had their summer residence. Franciszek was one of the managers of the construction of the cable car on Kasprowy Wierch. The Poronin villa was also visited by Polish statesman Józef Piłsudski, who along with General Andrzej Galica organised in Podhale the Polish army for the Battle of Warsaw. Jan Kiepura also left his mark on the history of the house. He performed concerts for the lady of the house in the beautiful garden with its romantic fountain.
Over 100 years and many guests later, the Niedźwiedzia Residence fills the next pages of history. Now it is a boutique villa, whose rooms are categorised as applied art. Designer interiors, romantic music, speciality local food and the feeling of home away from home. Far from Krupówki, close to what is important. In May, snow can cover tulips, and in December it bursts under the windows. And that evening tea with honey-ginger syrup…

We share our heart and care with you, which for us is synonymous with good food. On the quick dial we have local suppliers of regional products from proven shepherd's huts, apiaries and highlander housewives.
In the mountains, a wolf's appetite is a natural thing, so we invite you for a hearty breakfast in our dining room. Every morning a buffet magically appears with delicious and healthy products, some of which come from local suppliers.
- You will eat with us, among others traditionally baked bread, home-made eggs and high-quality meats.
– Straight from the shepherd's hut we bring oscypek cheese, bundz and sheep cheese.
– Seasonally, we also have goat cheese and milk, as well as natural honey from Podhale apiaries.
As it happens in a real home, we have a pantry that hides family secrets and jars with nature's gifts. We serve these supplies from our pantry at breakfast. From time to time, we also invite you to taste liqueurs, which taste exceptionally on autumn and winter evenings.
Throughout the day, there is a corner with hot drinks at your disposal in the living room, where you can make espresso coffee, tea and herbs. There is also a communal fridge that you can freely fill.
In the evening you can eat dumplings with us. Always homemade, handmade with various stuffings, several flavors to choose from. Let me know and we'll cook. A portion of 10 pieces costs PLN 30.
We will also recommend you some good restaurants in the area.
Who has seen it to be bored in the mountains. Even those who are unfamiliar with hiking in the mountains can count on chillout and breath from the city. There is no need to convince hikers, skiers, hikers and tollers that I will be here like in paradise.
At location :
We have several pairs of Nordic walking poles and bicycles at our disposal for active guests. We will show the routes, lead them to the trails and suggest what, where and how depending on the condition and weather conditions. We will also recommend a proven guide who will show you the most beautiful places in the Tatras, Zakopane and Podhale.
The wooden garden sauna is rented exclusively, it will provide you with relaxation and rest after a day. You can cool down in the shower, and in winter in the snowdrift.
In summer:
Rafting down the Dunajec River gorge on characteristic wooden rafts leads through the most beautiful corners of the Pieniny Mountains. The canoeing trip starts in Sromowce Kąty and ends in Szczawnica. Remember that the rafting season lasts from April 1 to October 31.
We have Nordic Walking sticks for you and proven routes with a view of the mountains. In winter, almost 200 km of ski-tour routes await you in the Tatras. Most of them coincide with summer routes, with the exception of places particularly endangered by avalanches. Iconic routes for skitourists include the Kasprowy Wierch approach and a trip to Hala Gąsienicowa.
Every year there are new routes for cross-country skiers:
- Kościelisko, where two routes are prepared in the Chotarz clearing.
- Kirach Biathlon Center.
- There are three of them waiting in Zakopane: on Równia Krupowa in the very center of the city, quite demanding near Wielka Krokiew and high-performance routes of the Central Sports Center.
- In Białka Tatrzańska, on Jankulakowski Wierch, there are 5 km of artificially snowed and illuminated trails after dark.
- A short route near the thermal baths in Chochołów.
- Nowy Targ, where the largest ski run in Podhale for competitors and amateurs takes place every year.
- The most beautiful routes, however, lead from Obidowa to the hostel on Turbacz.
Regardless of the season and the aura outside the window, go to the Witkacy Theater.
What’s there for children?
We want our guests to hear the sound of the stream, the wind blowing between the peaks and pleasant relaxing music coming from the living room. That is why we do not make reservations with young children, only from the age of 10.
When creating the Bear, we thought about adults, so we do not have extra beds, toys, attractions and waffles for breakfast. Young people with their parents will be fine here, but the little ones can dry out of boredom. Most of the rooms are bedrooms typical for couples, only the Romantic and Bear rooms have 1 extra bed in the room, and the Mezzanino room has 2 additional places on the mezzanine.
What’s there for employees?
In our common space, we have a choice of several cozy places to work. For social workers there will be a large common table in the living room or an ultra-soft sofa. Guests who prefer to work alone can sit down in a comfortable armchair or at individual tables. There will be access to power sockets, so packing powerbanks is not needed. Our common areas are usually quiet, because we do not host children in Niedźwiedzia.
For maximum comfort, for the time of departure, we suggest creating your office in bed or using the desk located next to it (three rooms have a desk).
