Welcome to the former Free City of Gdańsk, in Otomin, which is a pleasant walk (about 1 km) from the borders of Gdańsk, a quick journey by car or city bus, and has nothing to do with the city. In the surrounding forests, on Lake Otomińskie and in the nearby peat bogs, you can hear the echo of the call of the young knight Otomin, who has been looking for his beloved - Odmina's water nymph for centuries. We haven't seen him yet, but you can come across a carnivorous sundew during your walks, which is also a pretty good attraction.
First, the parents took care of everything, now we give them time for a well-deserved retirement, and their adult children are taking on the call to action. We look into pots and together with the seasons we arrange the menu in the Tabun Restaurant, explore the secrets of cider production, because we are especially proud of it, bake bread, compose picnic baskets, marinate herring and dry the local mushrooms. So it's tasty and that's important to us. Horses and the entire animal menagerie are also important, and you can get to know them on the spot.
For us, everything has its place here. Tabun is a restaurant, a horse riding center and a house with five rooms. If you are looking for a breath of fresh air in a green area near Gdańsk - then that's just where we are. If you want to eat something good, you will find it here. A family celebration in a beautiful setting? It's also possible here with us. But if you're looking for complete seclusion where the silence is broken only by a concert of frogs, go to a more secluded place. Here, as is the case outside the city, a bit more is happening ...
On a family farm surrounded by Otomin forests, peat bogs, right next to a vegetable garden. The rooms have just undergone major refurbishment and are ready for guests. From the windows you can see horses, farm buildings and a forest. In the morning, we will welcome you with breakfast in our restaurant, lunch, desserts, dinner and snacks can be ordered à la carte. You have constant access to our horses, there are also goats and cats. And they can also be (wisely) fed.
We have 5 rooms for you above the restaurant and an apartment with a separate entrance above the stable. You can choose from 3 rooms for 4 people, 2 rooms for 2 people. Each has a separate bathroom, next to the rooms there is a fridge and a kettle at the disposal of all guests. Three of them have a double bed and a sofa bed, while the other two are typical twos with 2 single beds.
For individualists who like to rest to the accompaniment of horse hooves, we have our newest apartment. The loft above the stable is designed for up to 7 people. It has a bedroom with a double bed and a single bed, a living room with an open kitchen and dining area, and a mezzanine with 2 extra beds. There is also a fold-out couch in the living room that can accommodate an additional 2 people. There is of course also a modern bathroom with a huge shower.
Of course, we invite you with the dogs. Holidays with pets are possible in all rooms, except our two double rooms - they have carpeting on the floor and dogs are not allowed there.
There are also bicycles and a rowing boat at your disposal.
The Tabun restaurant has been our pride and joy for years, so we feed you the best we can. We like to cook, and I (the chef) go into the kitchen myself and cook with the chefs. We focus on seasonality, and the menu changes like the seasons, 4 times. Additionally, we serve a different dish of the day every day, so we will definitely surprise you with something. Breakfasts are additionally paid or included in the price, depending on the season, we serve from 7:00 to 10:00. There is homemade sourdough bread, smoked cold cuts on site, eggs from a friendly farm, goat cheese made from the milk of our goats, jams, preserves, pickled pumpkins, lightly salted from our pantry.
You can order other meals from the menu in our restaurant. The restaurant is open Monday-Friday 12:00 – 20:00, Saturday-Sunday and holidays 11:00 – 21:00.
We put a lot of heart into the kitchen. Dad bakes bread, husband Michał deals with ciders, which have become his special project, we put the fruit in jars and make liqueurs from them, our favorite is mirabelle plums picked in the area, we soak herring in vinegar, we add pickled pears to dumplings. We always have vegetarian options too.
Our pride, i.e. ciders from carefully selected apple varieties, are waiting. They are unsulphured, unfiltered and unpasteurized. They do not contain any additives, which makes them unique. On site, you can try how you like them and pack them in your suitcase to take away.
It is only a kilometer from the borders of Gdańsk, so you can come to Otomin on foot (maybe not all the way from the center, because from the old town you have to take a tram and then a bus). You can inhale the greenery in the oak and beech forest, relax at Lake Otomińskie, walk in the post-glacial areas, admire peat bogs and huge tree trunks. You can look for a fern flower, but with caution. Ticks often hide on the leaves of ferns, and some varieties of this plant are under protection.
You can also go for a walk in the Otomin Protected Landscape Area, it is there that you will discover peat bogs that look picturesque at any time of the year. The area is under protection, and in the vicinity there is, for example, "Torfowisko Smęgorzyńskie", where an inquisitive amateur biologist can spot an insect-eating sundew.
Otomińskie Lake and its surroundings are a wonderful place. In summer, there is a holiday rest here. Bathing, sunbathing on a wild beach, rustling trees. In autumn, there is an abundance of mushrooms in the forests surrounding the lake. Anglers have their resting place here all year round. On summer weekends, there are plenty of holidaymakers who scare the fish, but spring mornings and summer dawns are the time when you can count on catching a bream or a large pike at least one kilogram. In winter, you can catch a large perch and a nice roach.
After exploring the area, it's time to return to Tabunu to rest. It can be active, in the saddle, in a sleigh during a sleigh ride, on the pitch or quite sedate, on a deckchair, by a fire, in a restaurant with a cider or in our cider house. We have recently had our craft cider factory, where we create delicious alcoholic beverages from old varieties of unspotted apples. You can taste our cider on the spot, buy it for home, talk about the production process and even see how it is made.
Tabun is 4 hectares of fenced area, so the rest area is wide. We have our apple in the eye for you here, i.e. a restaurant (which is also available to guests from the outside), a banquet hut, a safe parking lot, a playground for children, a playground, a grill and a fireplace.
If you have never sat in the saddle, we invite you to the stirrups. We will try to make you skilled riders, chase away the fear of horses and turn it into love for these wonderful animals. We have 20 horses, beautiful galloping areas, an indoor arena and a manege where everyone can learn to ride: old and young, small and large, gifted and less gifted, beginners and advanced. For those who choose not to ride horses, we offer carriage rides and sleigh rides in winter.
Living in the forest has its advantages. We are in no hurry, and if you need a cultural experience, you can go to the Museum of Old Art in Gdańsk and contemplate the masterful Last Judgment of Hans Memling.
For hikers and avid cyclists, we recommend the surrounding tourist routes: Wzgórze Szymbarskich, Kartuski and Skarszewski running along the lake.
What’s there for children?
We have two babies ourselves, who are tarabania in Tabuna and are not afraid of anything. They stroke cats lying in the sun, go on bicycles with their parents (we have small and large ones for you), go crazy on the playground, and play in a corner prepared for them during the rain. And in general - the little children in Tabuna follow in their footsteps.
For toddlers and older kids, we have a riding school and ponies where you can start your adventure in the saddle. You must make an appointment for driving lessons in advance (505 095 167).
Our farm is not only horses. We love animals, so we take care of our goats, pigs, rabbits and cats. Under the parents' supervision, they can be fed green, caressed and cared for.
