Willa Tadeusz

Add the name of your place

Location Poland, Lesser Poland Province, Lanckorona
The climate here is such that one looks around for a young Daniel Olbrychski in riding boots, hitting on the maidens of Wilko. The probability is high because Polish actors Roman Wilhelmi, Adam Hanuszkiewicz and Barbara Krafftówna, as well as other guests, publicly known and unknown, but all distinguished have spent time in Villa Tadeusz. The key figure is great-grandfather Tadeusz, the perpetrator of all the confusion, and grandfather Tadeusz, who drove to Krakow in a wooden car, who allowed himself to be fired from the catapult and was able to explain like nobody else why in Villa Tadeusz the bust of Piłsudski withstood Hitler, Stalin and would stand forever because that's just how it's supposed to be. In the 1950s, Grandfather Tadeusz built a real brick swimming pool in this forest corner and he magically stopped time so that among the greenery you could listen to music from a black record, take your time to eat apple pie and look at Babia Góra. Willa Tadeusz is probably the only Polish guesthouse that has been in the hands of one family for so many years. For us, it is a family symbol, just like great-grandfather Tadeusz, who originally built a forester's lodge here. And grandfather Tadeusz, whose remarkable spirit is in every place. It was thanks to his ingenuity and courage that the villa survived, withstanding Hitler, Stalin, and the People's Republic of Poland, often only to a happy coincidence, owing to the preservation of the status of a pre-war guesthouse. The villa remembers all the guests. Minister Józef Beck, General Haller, Marshal Koniew and his staff after the liberation of Krakow. He remembers rooms only for Germans on the first floor and refugees from the Warsaw Uprising on the second. He remembers visits from the Gestapo, GRU (military intelligence of the USSR) and the UB. He is still here, just as we are here to tell our guests about all this.

First there was a forester's lodge here, only later Tadeusz Lorenz senior began to expand the house. The first guests were the families of his fellow legions. We obtained the status of a guesthouse in 1924 and thanks to grandfather Tadeusz we never lost it. The pre-war guesthouse now Willa Tadeusz has its own style and history. However, there are no bathrooms in the rooms and we inform about it at the beginning. The house is too old for that, so we have placed bathrooms on the ground floor. Also on the ground floor there is a very atmospheric dining room with a warm stove, an antique piano and old sideboards and a large glass veranda overlooking the garden. Probably the oldest Polish hotel library is also located here.

Lanckorona is a 12th century village, unlike any other. It does not impose itself very much, for many it is just another place on the way to Krakow. But if someone stops for a moment, even by accident, they will notice that it is different here. For years, Lanckorona has been inhabited by artists and restless spirits who draw energy from the view of the Tatra Mountains and Babia Góra. You can see in Lanckorona and its vicinity: - Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, a pilgrimage complex, as the only calvary in the world entered on the UNESCO list - at the top of Lanckorońska Mountain, you can see the ruins of Kazimierzowski Castle - Castle in Sucha Beskidzka, a beautiful renaissance residence known as the Little Wawel - Tavern "Rzym" in Sucha Beskidzka (the one from Twardowski and the zirograph) - Góra Chełm with bicycle routes, chairlift and a sofa - 10 minutes by car from us is the ski slope "Szklana Góra" - Market square in Lanckorona with unique wooden buildings, and a museum on the square What to experience, what to experience? - in mid-December, the "Angel in the Miasteczko" festival, the largest rally of angels in Poland, takes place on the atmospheric market square - come to Cafe Pensjonat for one of the concerts - eat apple pie at Cafe Arka - take part in the rally of vintage cars - in August, come to the Romantic Lanckorona, festival of lovers - and in June at the St. John's Fair
