How do payments work on Slowhop?

You issue a price offer to guests on Slowhop. In the offer, enter the total price of the booking and the deposit that the guest must pay to confirm payment. The guest can pay it within the time you specify - the default time frame is 2 days - otherwise the booking will be cancelled and the date will become available again for other interested guests. The guest pays into your Stripe account that you created directly through your Slowhop profile. Stripe will then deduct the commission and send it to Slowhop's account. Stripe will transfer the remaining amount to your bank account. 

If you do not require a prepayment of the total price of the booking, the remaining balance is handled directly with the guest and payment is not done via Stripe.

Slowhop will issue a commission invoice at the beginning of the next month for the commission charged.

In order to minimize the amount of work required to handle both the guest payment and the commission payment to Slowhop, we recommend:

- create your Stripe account - in your Slowhop account under "Settings" - "Stripe Payment Account"

- require a higher deposit than the amount of the commission to confirm the booking (so that the commission can be deducted automatically)

- fill in your billing details correctly - in your Slowhop account on the "Settings" tab - "Contact details". Please fill in your billing details here, including your VAT number, in order to be correctly charged for the commission

FAQs about payments and invoicing

Guest cannot pay

1. Calendar - please check your calendar to make sure you have an available date for which the guest sent a request. If you have blocked that date, the guest cannot complete payment and the date needs to be released first.

2. Stripe - log into your Stripe account via your Slowhop account at "Settings" -> "Stripe Payment Account" and check if any information needs to be added. If so, you can see the "exclamation point" in Stripe or the highlighted fields that need to be edited or completed. Once the data is added, Stripe will allow the guest to complete the payment.

3. Advice to the guest - it is possible that the guest is using an out-of-date browser; or may have set limits for his/her card. Ask the guest to try paying from a different browser or to update the current browser. Similarly, advise them to check the limit settings for their card or to use another card for payment.

4. Contact Slowhop - if the date in your calendar is available, Stripe does not ask you to add any additional information and the guest confirms that everything is up to date and set up correctly, please contact us at hop@slowhop.com.

Guest wants to pay by bank transfer

Please enter the total price in the quote and write "0" in the required deposit. The guest is then able to confirm the booking, you will see the contact details after confirmation and you can issue an invoice for the guest according to their requirements. You pay the commission from this booking to Slowhop at the beginning of the next month.

I need to change my bank account number

In your Slowhop account, go to "Settings" - "Stripe Payment Account" to log in to Stripe and here you can change all your details, including the bank account number to which Stripe will transfer money from the guests.

Where can I find a payment summary?

In your Slowhop account, on the " Payments" tab, you can see all the payments your guests have paid you by using Stripe. You can also see the commission that has been deducted by Stripe from the amount paid and has been sent to Slowhop.

How do I pay the commission to Slowhop?

If you have a Stripe account created through Slowhop, the commission is automatically deducted from the payment made by the guest and is then transferred to Slowhop. If you don't have a Stripe account or the guest's payment amount is lower than the commission you will be asked to pay the commission at the beginning of the next month via bank transfer. Slowhop will issue you a commission invoice in both situations.

In order to charge the commission correctly, you need to have your billing information filled in in your Slowhop account under "Settings" - "Contact details".

What should I do if a guest cancels a booking?

If you refund the total amount paid by the guest, Slowhop will refund your commission. Directly in your Slowhop account on the "Bookings" tab, click on the booking and via "Propose changes" and "Cancel booking" cancel the booking. Please let us know at hop@slowhop.com that you have made the cancellation and refunded the guest. We will refund the commission to your Stripe account.
