An old Masurian house stands by a forest pond, among ferns. It tempts with a spacious terrace open to the garden, large windows reflecting green and the smell of wood. However, whoever expects a modest, idyllic rest in a former cottage, let us surprise us. Because inside, a feast for design fans awaits. We have here classics of applied art and works of young Polish designers. Colors, textures, patterns and shapes await in a bright, openwork space. They fill a comfortable, modern house for 12 people who want to enjoy the benefits of the local lands together.
We dreamed of a place that would allow us to enjoy the beauty of both the surroundings and the interior. We called it FERN because the multitude of ferns growing here stimulated our imagination. It became an inspiration: the soothing green of the walls harmonizes with the surrounding space. And we and you use it - because we live next door, but we do not impose ourselves. We will suggest which way is best to Probarskie Lake and the Piska Forest. Just be warned - it can be difficult to get off the soft beds in atmospheric bedrooms. Enjoy sensual relaxation in style and surrounded by nature.
FERN is a former Masurian cottage, which charms with a rustic ambulatory, and inside it surprises with designer décor. We filled the old wooden house with colors, nice objects, interesting books and art. Mateusz Baumiller, an architect known for such projects as Autor Rooms or Clay Warsaw, is responsible for the project.
The spacious house is perfect for a group of acquaintances, friends or a large family. The ground floor combines several functions: you can cook there, sit at a common table, but also rest and laze. The building has:
- 220 m²,
- 6 bedrooms (including 1 bedroom with a separate entrance from the outside),
- 3 bathrooms
- a large kitchen with a dining area, a table for 12 people and an adjoining living room,
- huge terrace,
- garden.
There are 6 different bedrooms at your disposal. One of them is particularly intimate: it has a separate entrance from the house. Another one has two single beds - perfect for children or teenagers. We took care of very comfortable mattresses and nice bedding.
Our house gives you the opportunity to be in private, away from tourist traffic, but also close to everywhere. It is 20 minutes to Mikołajki and Mrągowo, if you are thirsty for a resort climate, and you can reach Krutynia in half an hour.
There is a second house on the plot in which we live. We are hosts of the genre of those who like their privacy. Everyone is welcome with us, but we live family life right next door, we work and value peace. If you also like your company on vacation, we are a good mate - we will not bother next to the house you rent (although we can sometimes meet in the garden). Of course, you can count on our help in every important matter. We will be grateful for contact by phone.
If you want to come to us for employment, no problem. We have a great Starlink internet, which will not get you a number during any call.
You will eat only delicacies, because in a kitchen such as this one cannot be cooked tastelessly. But seriously: you have to take care of the food yourself. The nearest shop is less than 4 km away. When you don't feel like cooking, you can jump to one of the nearby restaurants. Below you will find our recommendations.
A few more words about the kitchen: we have equipped it with huge windows. In the center there is a ceramic island, with its shape and material referring to country tiled stoves - set in such a way that while cooking you can look at the greenery surrounding the house. In the dining room, the eye is drawn to a long, cherry table, the top of which is made of one block of lumber. Its author is the designer Aleksander Oniszh.
Boredom is celebrated here – if only our visitors have such a whim. This is a house created with long meetings at a shared table in mind, lounging in a lush garden, enjoying aesthetics that stimulate creativity. A library is also waiting for you – a carefully selected collection of books, which includes stories from Japan, Spain and France. It contains many masterpieces of world literature.
And when you are finally bored creatively and have experienced delightful relaxation, set off to discover the area. Both the active, those thirsty for contact with nature and those eager for cultural experiences will find something for themselves here.
- Lake Probarskie is a 15-minute walk from us. It is a very clean and peaceful lake with a zone of silence and wild beaches; out of season it is practically empty. You can dive in it, you can also swim on SUP.
- There are many picturesque bike routes of varying degrees of difficulty around.
– In 20 minutes you can reach Mikołajki and Mrągowo. The Great Masurian Lakes Trail is located nearby, so you can combine your visit with a sailing trip.
– In 30 minutes you can reach the Krutynia River, where kayaking trips are organized; it is one of the most beautiful kayaking trails in Poland.
– The house is located in the Piska Forest; it is 100 thousand hectares of pine and spruce forests, where lynxes, beavers and cranes live. You can walk and cycle in the forest.

What’s there for children?
With us, children do not get bored, even in the rain. We have a daughter ourselves, so we took care of a selection of toys, games and a few attractions in the garden. However, nature is the coolest here. We would send children who were curious about the world to go mushroom hunting, fishing or carefree rushing around the countryside. You can also organize various trips: from nearby horse studs, through a deer farm, to the Wild Animal Park in Kadzidłów (this is one of the few places in Poland where you can still see wild animals in close to natural conditions; its patron was a famous naturalist who studies Siberia).
Important information: there is a forest pond right next to our plot. Please bear in mind that little ones need to be safe.
