Do you know the legend of the mythical Atlantis, which sank to the bottom of the seas? And do you know about Medlov too?
Fryšava pod Žákovou horou was famous for its silver ore mining. Nearby stood the town of Medlov, which received immense wealth thanks to silver. The townspeople cast 4 huge bells made of silver and hung them on the church tower. The locals were evil, envious, and greedy, and their entire city, heavy with precious metal, sank to the ground. The citizens of Fryšava flooded the giant hole with water from a nearby stream and named the pond as well as the original village, Medlov.
All 4 silver bells are said to have been found in the mud when the pond was drained, and today they are located in a church in Nové Město. But who says a piece of that silver isn't there to find?
Whether you are looking for two or you will be twenty, you can stay with us. At Chalupa na Fryšavě you will feel like your grandmother. Antique decorations, the smell of wood and a hot stove are reminiscent of times long past. But fortunately the mattresses, bed linen, blankets, duvets and towels are as modern and high quality as they can be. Enjoy the perfect balance of old and new and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you to find some silver.
You can rent this whole cottage and occupy it from floor to roof with your friends or family. A total of 20 of you can fit in here. We will take a little tour. Please follow me.
We go through the main entrance to the vestibule. To the right we see a cozy room I. The large, extended double bed is surrounded by dark wood paneling and a stone wall. The atmosphere is completed by a historic sewing machine. From the vestibule, however, we continue straight on, where there is an ancient (but surprisingly modern) kitchen in the shape of a noodle. From there we can easily enter the other 3 rooms. From the two rooms on the left, you can simply open the common door to create a great apartment with a dining area. In the room on the right you will find, in addition to a comfortable bed, a large library. Behind the stairs we find a shared bathroom with shower and toilet, and behind the kitchen there is a bike shed / ski room, which hides a surprise. But we'll talk about that later.
2nd floor is one large shared space for 10 people with sink and toilet. There is also a separate dining area, work desk and a large fireplace for winter evenings. A staircase leads to the cozy gallery, where 4 mattresses are pressed on top of each other, serving as an adventure shelter for 4 children.
So we have 6 rooms, 1 kitchen, 2 bathrooms and a bike shed. Please follow me out, please ...
This beautiful garden is part of the accommodation. You can stand, sit, lie down and run here. Or maybe play badminton. We have a lot of games and toys for you to borrow so that you don't get bored.
The kitchen is equipped with a functional stove, so if you want to bake buns the way our grandmothers did, go for it! Although we do everything we can to preserve the ancient character of the cottage, we make compromises. These are, for example, a dishwasher, coffee machine or microwave. Of course, we want your experience of Fryšava to be authentic, but at the same time we will not allow your comfort. And if we have a chance to make your stay easier, we will do it.
However, if you are not in the mood to cook at all, then there is nothing to solve. There are two nice restaurants right in the village. Don't expect any high gastronomy, but the stew and pork dumpling are perfect. If you want, we can arrange breakfast, half board or full board with delivery to the cottage. Let us know when booking and we will find out the current offer and prices.
And now the promised surprise: There's a faucet in the cottage. Clean, functional and equipped with a keg from the Dalešice brewery. Yes, exactly where Jiří Menzel shot Hrabal's Postřižina 40 years ago. Beer comes in handy after a busy trip or during an evening barbecue in the garden.
Not far from the cottage is also a famous local slaughterhouse. Grilled meat, ham or sausages are perfect, we guarantee it.
There is also a small supermarket in the village, open seven days a week.
Fryšava pod Žákovou horou, where our cottage is located, was famous for its glassmaking tradition and mining. But glassmaking is a little more poetic, isn't it? Since the middle of the 17th century, so-called Venetian or Murano glass has been produced here. This had the advantage that it remained malleable for longer, and therefore it was made into complex and richly shaped objects. Containers of fantastic shapes, breathtaking jewelry and other ornaments were created. You can still see examples in the Horácký Museum in Nové Město na Moravě.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND REST
12 kilometers from us lies Ždár nad Sázavou. In the 18th century, the city was ruled by the architect Santini , who became famous for his unique style called Baroque Gothic. Nearby is his masterpiece, the Church of St. John of Nepomuk on Green Mountain , which has been on the UNESCO list since 1994. Part of the Žďár chateau is the Museum of the New Generation , which was voted the most creative museum in Central Europe. At the reception you will receive headphones with an audio guide (in 5 languages) and the pleasant voices of a Cistercian monk will accompany you throughout the exhibition. Unique multimedia elements will draw you into the action. The ground floor of the exhibition is dedicated to the Cistercian order and the Dark Ages, the first floor will give you an insight into the beautiful and colorful world of the Baroque.
If you prefer nature rather than history, take a walk around our ponds . You can choose from Medlovský rybník, Sykovec and Velké Dářko, the largest pond in the Vysočina region with an interesting nature trail. When it's warm, definitely take a bath.
If all you need is complete relaxation and rest, head to the Japanese Garden . Pavel Šimon has been building it himself since 1996 in the spirit of Buddhist and Shinto traditions . Stone sculptures imitate the Japanese and Czech landscape. You can relax with the roaring streams or look at the cute bonsai, the so-called jamadori. You can also buy them there so that peace accompanies you at home or in the office after returning from vacation.
And if Japanese zen didn't show up, try Czech. In the pub near Janečky in Kadov, the herbal liqueur Kadovánek is produced, which "enters the head, pro thinks, blows away worries, cleans the capsule". So that's it.
SPORT
Active holidaymakers, don't worry, there are clouds for you to discover in the Highlands!
- CLIMBING - If you like adrenaline, you can go to Pasecká skála, Dráteničky or Devět skal. Most importantly, don't forget, Kadovánek, then!
- SKIING AND SNOWBOARD - 8 km from us is Ski snowpark Harusův kopec, 15 km from us Ski resort Jimramov and 18 km from us is SKI area Svratka.
- Cross-country skiers and biathletes - Cross-country skiers do not have half a kilometer to the first track. The surroundings of Fryšava and Novoměstsko are characterized by the largest number of maintained cross-country trails in the entire Vysočina region. In Nové Město na Moravě, there is also the Vysočina Arena, where the World Cup races in cross-country skiing take place regularly, and in 2013, even the Biathlon World Championships took place here. And if you don't want to race on the tracks, you can at least compete to discover the statue of a sunken cross-country skier, which was placed by the recessionist František Cimbálník on the track in Fryšava.
SNOWKITING - If you love snow and want to try something new, adrenaline, hope it will blow. In that case, you can try snowkiting around Fryšava and Nové Město na Moravě. There is also a school for beginners and equipment rental nearby, so there is no need to plan anything and buy dearly.
CYCLERS - Bike trails cross the Vysočina region and you can get on the first of them right next to the cottage. Let yourself be directed to the foothills of Žďárské vrchy, to the famous tourist area around the village of Tři Studně, to the Medlov pond and to the famous Harus hill. Above Nový Město na Moravě there is also a very colorful Cyklo arena Vysočina. The authors are Lukáš Vlach and Jan Skřička, who designed the trails so that mountain biking will bring pleasure to the widest possible group of cyclists.
What’s there for children?
Horse and tart. This is a short way to define a trip to the farm Blatiny. Lucka and Anežka are professionals who will help you jump on the horse's back and will make sure that you enjoy the ride as much as possible - whether you are beginners or advanced. You can then have a snack at a local restaurant. However, we recommend booking the table in advance because Paňmáma Marcela Teplá also enchanted Lukáš Hejlík with her goodies and got to his famous Gastromap. So there's a fight over the tables.
We will still stay with the horses, but this time in cowboy style. The first western town in the Czech Republic, Šiklův mlýn, has prepared an all-day program for you with a number of animation programs, entertainment performances, theater performances and attractions.
Are you afraid? Then in Dolní Rožínka visit Draxmoor - a haunted castle in a 500-year-old building of a historic granary. 86 characters and ghosts, a 3D cinema and a spooky elevator will be appreciated even by small children, but of course it depends on whether they are just tired or otherwise annoyed.
If children need motivation for walks, go hunting for sculptures by Michal Olšiak. In Fryšava you will find Mushrooms, at the Three Wells a giant statue of an Owl, and in the vicinity you can find a Turtle, a Mammoth or a Duel of Hippos. Yeah, and Hamron, too. And if you don't know who Hamron is, you should definitely start looking for him.
