destinature Village Hitzacker

Translated automatically with Google Translate

We all know what is happening to our planet and that we must take good care of it. Our company, WERKHAUS, under whose roof we built the destinature village has embedded sustainability into the DNA of every part of its business since it was founded in 1992. Now we wanted to create a sustainable place where our guests can live close to nature and learn to respect it. We want to show you that you can go on a holiday without an unnecessary carbon footprint, but with more comfortable conditions than camping in a tent. Nature becomes your hotel!

The destinature village is a place for people who like to wake up to the sound of birds singing, feel the grass beneath their feet on the way to breakfast and take a shower under the stars. You will meet people here who feel right at home outside and want to be surrounded by nature. You can spend the night in comfortable wooden houses or in a movable bed-tent. The whole village is made of natural and ecological materials and can be dismantled without leaving a trace.

We spend time here with guilt-free laziness and by exploring the surrounding area. We lie on the grass, we ride bikes along the Elbe, we canoe, learn the history, visit the nearby towns. For dinner, we meet in an organic bistro, which we run ourselves. Our speciality is a salad with local vegetables. And when the sun goes down, we sit by the fire or relax in the sauna and hot tub.

Heike Lissen

Your hosts will be us: Eva and Holger Danneberg. Our dream of a perfect holiday home surrounded by nature came true here. We have always lived an eco-friendly life and cared for the environment. With this in mind, we founded the company WERKHAUS in 1992, which deals with sustainable production of environmentally friendly products for the office and home, such as furniture, 100% manufactured in Germany. And from these products we have created our holiday camp, in which we show others how to care about nature.

No cooking in the huts – we offer organic food in our bistro

Where will I sleep?

On our eco-campsite, we have 16 wooden houses, 6 bed-tents, a bistro, a place for a campfire, a wellness area (sauna and hot tubs), a common sanitary area and loads of nature with trees to pick some fruit in late summer. For sleeping you can choose:

- destinature hut (max.4 guests)
- destinature hut...
plus (max.3 guests)
- Bed-tent/Bed to go (max. 2 guests)

Each hut has organic cotton bed linen and towels. The beds are single, but we mounted them on special rails, so they can be combined. In addition, there are cupboards and shelves where you can organise your luggage. The destinature hut plus has a sink and a dry toilet (when creating our place, we did not want to interfere with nature by digging pipes). We have installed anti-mosquito nets in the windows. All the huts have their own terrace, where you can drink a morning coffee and relax during the day.

Our bed-tents, or Beds2Go, are a real innovation designed and built by ourselves. This is an option for those who like sleeping in a tent, but do not want to give up a comfortable mattress. The bed on wheels with a canopy-like roof allows you to choose where you want to sleep on the site - either grouped together with other people or with a view into the green. There’s also a mosquito net so you can fall asleep looking up at the stars.

In general, the furniture in the houses (and beds) is minimal because we’d like to encourage you to spend time outside, have a snack at the bistro or build a campfire, meet new people, relax in the wellness area (sauna and hot tubs) or discover the region.

We've installed solar panels in several places in our village, where you can recharge your phone and other electronic devices.

There is a modern common sanitary area with showers, toilets, sinks, washing machine and dryer.

What will I eat?

Our homes are made of raw wood, so cooking inside could be a little dangerous. That’s why there are no kitchenettes in the houses. But that doesn’t mean that you will be hungry in the destinature village. Quite the opposite – we opened a bistro forming the centre of our site. Here, you will always find... a member of our team and meet other guests during the day.

We will offer breakfast and snacks there during opening hours. For breakfast, you will be offered several options to choose from (vegan, veggie with delicious cheeses, sweet, salty, gluten-free, etc.). During the day, we provide various organic snacks, salads, soups and drinks. And in the evening we gather around the fire close to the bistro.

We take our ecological approach very seriously, so our menu is consistently eco-friendly, and the products from which we prepare dishes come from local and regional suppliers. In order not to make empty promises: fresh bread is served daily from a nearby bakery, we plan to cooperate with a nearby farm, from where we will get vegetables and fruits. Quench your thirst with fresh orange juice, a Voelkel kombucha or a tasty beer.

What will I do?

What's happening in and around Hitzacker? Really a lot! You'll love it no matter how old you are. Here’s a small guide to our area:

1. Wendland
Some say the town of Hitzacker does not belong to the Wendland region. We do not agree with this because we can feel the atmosphere of this region here. It’s...
a mix of creative and interesting people who live here and organise many artistic events. Locals also care about nature, actively work for environmental protection, running e.g. Green Workshop Wendland. Apart from that nature has generously given us a beautiful landscape.

2. The Elbe and bicycle route along the Elbe (Elberadweg)
The famous cycling route is a stone's throw away (250 metres). The river port is 600 metres away. By the shore, you will find charming little beaches where you can go and relax.

3. Discovery
The Hitzacker Archaeological Centre (AZH) is our neighbour. There are various programmes here to help you learn about the history of the region. We work with them, so we have other conditions that are worth asking us about on the spot :)

4. Nature
There is a lot of it: our village is located in the UNESCO biosphere reserve – Elbe River Landscape, so we are surrounded by beautiful nature. You will find photogenic beaches and with a little luck, you will see beavers, otters, storks and other birds and wild animals. Places worth visiting are Breeser Grund, Nemitzer Heide and Lake Gartower. Hizacker is also located in the centre of the Arche region, where there are many animal farms. Some of them are happy to receive guests, so it's worth asking.

5. Hitzacker
Hitzacker is a small picturesque town 400 metres from us, which some also call ‘the island’. We even have a vineyard here, from which you can admire the view of the valley and the Elbe. Plus, you can kayak on Lake Hitzacker.

6. Splash, fun and skate park
The outdoor pool, ideal for summer weather, is only a 10-minute walk away. The skate park is even closer, and the playground is just around the corner.

7. Wellness area
Our wellness area is perfect for resting after a long bike trip, exploring the Elbe valley or just a way to end a very relaxing day. We have a sauna, outdoor showers and hot tubs. There’s nothing better than sweating off tiredness in the sauna or enjoying an evening soak in the hot tub. You can rent bathrobes and towels from us. A real spa!

8. Additional info
There is a shop with ecological products 600 metres away from our destinature village and a bike rental service, and the tourist information centre is only 500 metres away. And we are also here to help.

What's for children?

We warmly welcome children. We have board games in our bistro and are currently planning other opportunities to play on the site.
We don't have a playground, but close to the destinature village you'll find one plus the following attractions:
- archaeological open-air museum next-door, with an interesting...
program of attractions for children during the holidays
- skate park in the area
- outdoor swimming pool
- a nature reserve where you can observe migrating birds, stork nests, beavers and other wildlife

How to get here?

We work with a local bicycle rental service so we recommend cycling (we all like to be eco-friendly). To get to the other side of the river, you can cross by ferry (1.2 km). The nearest train station is 1.2 km away and the port is 600 metres away. Of course, you can also reach us by car, see the map.
