I bought a house standing in medieval Wleń from a priest. It is a former parish school from the turn of the 19th and 20th century, now standing on the market square in Wleń. This is important information, because you are coming to a small town with all its advantages and disadvantages, and not to a complete wilderness. The house has classrooms on one side and the organist's flat on the other. It was a challenge to renovate the neglected wooden floors, the winding staircase, the walls with their glowing varnish and the school corridors. However, I have preserved what I was able to save. So there is the original layout of the rooms, with a white suite in the catechetical hall and two others in the former organist's flat. There are creaky floors after a major renovation and the soul of the church nursery. Here the Virgin Mary with child, there the original notes of a church song. Plus a mishmash of contemporary art and classical design. There will certainly be something to feast your eyes on.
We don't always cook (ask when booking), but if we do - Ania Komsta, author of the book "Tales of the Table", talks about the table with the flavours of the borderlands. We will set the table and feed you, tell you about culinary and cultural heritage, about the former inhabitants of Wlen and the magical Bóbr Valley. We will tell you where to go kayaking, where to get local delicacies, and in which direction to look for architecture and history. Simplicity, beauty, idyllic and mysteriousness live here everywhere. You will want to come back here, come.
In a post-German house where over 100-year-old floors have undergone a thorough SPA, the colored glass in the door reflects the light beautifully, stags watch over the mire, and contemporary art lives in symbiosis with ancient devotionalism. With Organists it is not a bluff. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the house was a parish school with a classroom and an organist's apartment. On the one hand, where the white apartment is now located, catecheses for children were held. On the other hand, the one with the second floor where the other two apartments are located was the apartment of the parish organist. After the war, there was a primary school here, and later the building returned to the bosom of the Church, from which I bought the building.
The first glance at the interior was not promising. Shiny wood paneling in a classic color - coffee with milk, as befits school corridors, rolling linoleum, bathrooms that were scary to enter. After a great renovation and cooperation with a great architect, things have changed beyond recognition. We kept as many original elements as possible. Window and door joinery, floors and stairs are a breath of history. Restored but not in a flash. They have a patina, you can see paint residues, abrasions. From the novelties, patterned wallpapers directly from the London-based William Morris manufactory appeared on the walls, and at every step the contemporary art of Polish artists: Anna Pol, Magda Wolna and Marianna Sztyma, delights. There are beautiful glass reflecting the sun's rays, old clocks that I used to collect, designer flavors in the form of unusual lighting.
The house consists of 3 independent apartments with separate entrances (approx. 80 m2 each), and in each of them: 2 bedrooms, bathroom, fireplace and kitchen. From the bathtub on the first floor you can watch the castle hill or the works of Magda Wolna. You can bask by the fireplaces, tread the cobalt floor of the bedroom of the white apartment, listen to the bird's radio, inhale the air full of the scent of lilacs and daylilies.
Each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen (including coffee maker, fridge, stove, dishwasher, toaster, dishes, cutlery, pots). In the bathrooms there are hairdryers, sets of towels and real Lower Silesian marble on the floors. After going out to the wild garden, we serve Wleń in all its glory. The scent of flowers, walks after dew, bird recitals on high frequencies, church bells tolling before mass, school bells calling for a break, and a wooden terrace in the garden with sun loungers and a hammock.
We invite you to the Chamber Table, where you will fall into delight, taste, and eat. An extraordinary person is the creator of the culinary adventure waiting for you there. Autochtonka, author of the book "Tales of the Table. From the East to the West", Anna Komsta, our good spirit and culinary partner of U Organików. It focuses on seasonal products and simplicity, the taste and appearance of dishes, memories of the taste of bread from childhood, sour rhubarb threads, chats with grandparents as you used to feed at weddings and what you ate during baptism saves the kitchen of the Kresowiaks from oblivion. This feast will be unforgettable. We will arrange it so that it is beautiful, Anna will tell you what you will eat, answer culinary and cultural questions, and reveal what you ate in Wleń. Adventure with taste requires preparation, so let us know in advance that you want to take part in it (breakfasts and dinners, also vegan and vegetarian).
The natural garden by the house smells sweet and is at your disposal. If you want to cook yourself, come to the kitchen. Wild lilac flowers are recommended for sweet pancakes. Set the coffee maker, fry the pancakes and eat breakfast in a hammock. Eat as you like, in pajamas, slippers, feet wet with dew, in sweatpants, in a bathrobe. You can buy crispy bread in a small bakery around the corner, and on Saturday, go to the Górskie Smaki market at the Ducal Tower in Siedlęcin for other local delicacies. You will fall with delight. You will not get such eco-friendly delicacies from the Karkonosze anywhere else.
Wleń has a spa microclimate and a sanatorium peace. The Bóbr Valley flows sluggishly here, it flows as always and nothing changes. Sometimes the water level is higher, other times it drops. From the garden, in the morning dew or evening pink, you can look at the castle. It has been towering over the town since the 13th century and still stands as it stood. Destroyed by the turmoil of history, it protects them from the noise. You can go for a walk to the ruins along the path of Saint Jadwiga Śląska and experience a night tour of the castle by the light of a torch. Extinct volcanoes from which you can observe the area, walking hills from which the Lower Silesian architecture of Wleń looks great, the palace, town hall, the 13th century church of St. Nicholas, kayaks and rafting on the Bóbr river, fly fishing, searching for agates, bread bought in the Wleń market, fruit and vegetable market, church bells pointing south. A screening at the small studio Kino za Rogiem. Idyllic provincial reality.
You can admire the dams with the Plichowice and Wrzeszczyn hydropower plants, which were built in the times without cranes and specialized machinery. You can walk along the trails, along the Bóbr or medieval villages and towns and not meet a living soul.
Take the Piast Castle Trail, which is about 146 km long and runs through the territory of the former Duchy of Świdnica and Jawor, take a look at the Wild Ravine at the edge of the palace park in Maciejowiec. There are many palaces in the area, they are in Dębowy Gaj, Nielestno, Przeździedza, Sobota, Wleński Gródek and Płakowice.
It is worth going to Siedlęcin for several reasons. Every Saturday eco market Górskie Smaki, where all the wonderful producers from the area gather, for visiting the knight's tower with medieval frescoes and for unusual tours with a great guide. For a great flea market, head to Cieplice on Sunday.
On the last Sunday of May, the Kołodziej House Association organizes the Half-timbered Houses Open Day. Then go to the neighboring Przeździedza. There, in Kuźnia nad Bóbr, you will get to know these unusual buildings, see what the 300-year-old forge looks like, take part in blacksmithing shows, talk to the hosts and have a good time.
If you want to learn more about the unique geology of our region and the Land of Extinct Volcanoes, you must turn to specialists. 28 km from us, in Dobków, at Villa Greta, there is the Sudecka Educational Farm, a modern geological and regional education center. Guided tours take place every Saturday and Sunday at 12:00.
For holidaymakers who crave for additional impressions and like active leisure, we recommend the services of a friendly organizer, whose offer includes:
- canoeing or rafting on the Bóbr river,
- trips by quads or off-road vehicles around the area,
- paintball events,
- in winter, also ski and snowboard schools for children.
What’s there for children?
U Organists is located in the center of the village, on a little busy street, adjacent to a church and a primary school. The house has a family character. Common parts encourage spending time together, in hammocks, on the grass, while climbing a tree. Country fun, nothing but that much. Mornings start with a run to the natural garden. There is a terrace for holiday breakfasts and a German fruit orchard. There is a playground and a school sports field just a stone's throw away, and 200 meters from here there is a cozy Kino Za Rogiem Jutrzenka, offering film mornings for children.
